Early examples of advertising date back to pre-modern history with pieces found in Pompeii and ancient Greece and Rome. Until the early-20th century most ads were print of course, then the invention of radio sparked a huge interest in the first broadcast advertisements. It’s crazy to think that just in the past few decades is when advertising was spun on its head with the creation of the Internet. It’s now possible to instantly reach people all over the world which is mind boggling if you think of how restricted advertising was even thirty years ago.

We thought it would be fun to put together a timeline of the history of advertising because we find it interesting that something so important basically remained the same for hundreds of years and then there was a burst in the industry. Now who knows what the future holds!

Over the coming weeks we’ll break down each era by sharing some fun facts and cool pics!
